Pancreas Research Program Established

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases has awarded Penn Medicine a $12 million, four-year grant to establish the Human Pancreas Analysis Program (HPAP). It will be directed by Ali Naji, the J. William White Professor of Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine, and will consist of six teams whose specialties range from tissue analytics and bio-banking to immunology and epigenetics. The multidisciplinary effort will focus on advancing understanding of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, as well as other varieties of pancreatic dysfunction.
