On Thanksgiving Day 50 years ago, the Penn Quakers defeated Cornell 28-13 to win the Ivy League Football Championship, and the wooden goalpost met the fate of triumphant-team goalposts everywhere. Duke Nordlinger Stern W’63 was a freshman that season, and he has a chunk of that goalpost—inscribed with the scores of each game—in an undisclosed location. “I trust the statute of limitations on (alleged) wrongful possession of such a valuable item has long since passed,” he writes. We hope so, too.
