According to photographer Candace diCarlo, the kaleidoscopic image above is her attempt—one in a series—to “create a little universe that shows the merging of randomness in nature with its extraordinary design and mathematics.” The original photo was taken as winter was ending at the Morris Arboretum: Bare tree limbs form the lace-like tracings in the center, surrounded by daffodils and magnolias, “the first wave of blooms in the spring.”
