Pedro Ramos C’87, Penn’s vice president and chief of staff for the past two years, has left Locust Walk for City Hall, becoming Philadelphia’s new city solicitor.

Ramos is not new to public service. Before coming to Penn he served as president of Philadelphia’s board of education [“The Education of Pedro Ramos,” September/October 2000].

“I am very proud of Pedro and pleased for the city,” President Judith Rodin said after his appointment by Mayor John Street in January. “His legal, business, and civic experience will serve the City of Philadelphia well.” Ramos also was a partner at the Philadelphia law firm of Ballard, Spahr, Andrews & Ingersoll.

Ramos began his new job on March 1. His duties at Penn—which included managing the day-to-day operations of Rodin’s office and serving as a senior policy advisor—will be taken over by Wendy White, Penn’s vice president and general counsel.
