Penn’s Law School has received a $15 million gift — the largest outright gift ever made to an American law school — from Henry R. Silverman, L’64, president and chief executive officer of Cendant Corporation. The money will be used for the restoration and renovation of the original Law School building — the school’s “intellectual and ceremonial heart,” according to Dr. Judith Rodin, CW’66, president of the University. It will also support an endowed chair, legal scholarship, and research.
Colin Diver, dean of the Law School, called the gift the “linchpin” for the school’s plans to develop a “leadership” program combining a legal education with perspectives drawn from other professions and academic disciplines.
