Both “Gazetteer” and “From College Hall” in this issue include mention of the new College House now starting construction on Hill Field. Scheduled for completion in the fall of 2016, the $127 million, 350-bed residence will be the first designed specifically with the University’s College House program in mind.

In her remarks at the groundbreaking in November, President Gutmann harked back to the impact of the Quad in reshaping the college experience a century ago, when most out-of-town students lived in boardinghouses. So we thought we would, too—with this page from the March 14, 1903, issue of Old Penn (as the Gazette was originally known) extolling the virtues of the “recently established dormitory systems,” of which Penn’s was, naturally, “[o]ne of the most successful.”
