Metro New Jersey. We kick off the New Year by celebrating Ben’s 309th Birthday in Short Hills on Wed., Jan. 14, with an open board meeting at 7:30pm, then cake and party games. On Fri., Jan. 23 at 7pm, we will host our always sold-out dinner and wine-tasting event. On Wed., Feb. 4, Soup’s On in Bergen County, where Emily Prancer will host a soup-making demonstration, beginning at 7pm, in her kitchen in Glen Rock; for details, email Marjie Scharfpitz at marjorol@hotmail.com. On Feb. 7, we will join with the Long Island club for dinner at the Amsterdam Restaurant (5pm) and then the Penn-Columbia men’s basketball game (7pm). San Diego. On Jan. 17, join us for Benjamin Franklin’s Birthday at the Green Dragon Tavern and Museum (6115 Paseo Del Norte, Carlsbad, 92011), 7—10pm. Dinner (a colonial-themed menu) will be followed by a private tour of the museum, which features Franklin memorabilia. yPenn of San Diego organizes a happy hour every second Thursday of every month; February’s will be at Sidecar (1310 Moreno Blvd.), 6—8:30pm.
