As Dr. Judith Rodin stepped down from the University’s presidency, Penn wasn’t the only institution eager to applaud her on a job well done. Rodin CW’66 Hon’04 received three honorary degrees (including one from her alma mater) as well as the city’s highest honor, the Philadelphia Award. The latter accolade, which includes a $25,000 honorarium, goes to an area citizen who has done the most to “advance the best and largest interest of the community.”
The award, which she will accept in September, recognizes Penn’s climb in the college rankings under Rodin as well as her commitment to improving public education, promoting home ownership, boosting economic development, improving retail space, and creating a clean and safe community in West Philadelphia.
In addition to an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Penn, Rodin received honorary degrees from Brown (Doctor of Laws) and NYU (Doctor of Humane Letters).
