Ronald Wilner, W’53, a media consultant, is still actively writing and directing commercials for political candidates. Most recently, this included producing the television and radio ads for the winning campaign of Jim Gilmore, who was elected governor of Virginia in November.
Robert M. Rosenthal, W’60, has been appointed to the California State Athletic Commission. The commission regulates the sport of boxing in California. Robert is also on the board of Maccabi USA/Sports for Israel, the U.S. team committee for the Maccabi games held every four years in Israel.
Jere Blackwelder, C’63, College Station, Tex., writes that his wife, Dr. Julia Kirk Blackwelder, CW’64, in October had a new book, Now Hiring: The Feminization of Work in the United States, 1900-1995, published by Texas A&M Univeristy Press. She is a professor and department head of history at A&M.

Their son, Nicholas Grad, C’93, is now director of television development for Columbia/Tri-Star Television.

Her husband, Ron Wallace, will leave his position as mission director for search and rescue at NASA as part of this move, while she relocates her management-consulting practice in favor of a warmer climate. “My friends from Penn may be interested to know that I’ve been licensing a model I developed of the human resource management (HRM) business domain to many major providers of HRM software (e.g., Cyborg and Meta4) as the basis for next generation HRM products. The adventure continues.”
Mark Ellman, C’67, married Nancy Ann Lieberman in October. He heads the Celestial Capital Group, a commercial real estate company in New York City.
Dr. Richard J. Estes, SW’67, professor of social work at the University, has been awarded both the International Rhoda G. Sarnat Prize of the National Association of Social Workers and the Best Research Article for 1996 Award from the International Society for Quality of Life Studies. Dr. Estes will use the money awarded by the Sarnat Prize to support his continuing work with the Montreal-based International Bureau of Child Rights, an agency seeking to expose the growing network of organizations that engage in the international trafficking of children for sex.
Dr. Arnold R. Eiser, C’70, and his family have relocated to Chicago and Wilmette, Ill. In July he became chief of general internal medicine and professor of medicine at the College of Medicine, University of Illinois at Chicago. He is also a bioethicist affiliated with the Hastings Center.
Howard Brod Brownstein, C/W’71, is “playing Mr. Mom to three semi-alien kids who live with me, finding myself oddly single after all these years.” In his spare time he is managing director of Executive Sounding Board Associates, Inc., a turnaround and crisis-management firm headquar- tered in Philadelphia — “as if I didn’t have enough crises of my own, I have to stick my nose into other people’s! Actually it’s great fun, and a recent engagement won ‘Turnaround of the Year’ from our professional association. Dating in the ’90s is weird: ‘What’s your major?’ no longer works.”
Susan Katz Larsson, CW’72, [email protected], works as a translator from Swedish to English, telecommuting to agencies both in Sweden and major U.S. cities. Her husband, Dr. Charles Larsson, C’70, is a family physician here in the tiny town of LaConner, Wash., where they have lived for 12 years. Their two sons are in Seattle: Erik studying linguistics at the University of Washington and Daniel studying computer animation and multimedia at the Art Institute of Seattle. Amanda is in sixth grade here. They spend their summers in Sweden, where they lived for 11 years during the ’70s and early ’80s. “I’d love to hear from old friends.”
Nathan Sturman, C’72, G’75, is a lecturer at Gunma National University in Maebashi, Japan, where he teaches ESL to undergraduates in the Faculty of Social Information. He is married to Masako Imai, who fondly remembers the time she spent in the Penn community; their daughter, Naomi, is 12 years old and in her last year of grade school. They live in Gunma Town, near both Takasaki and Maebashi, about 160km from Tokyo. Nathan worked for Oki Electric Industries as a full-time instructor for several years in the late 1980s and early ’90s, before returning to Gunma University. He continues his study of Chinese history and literature; “surprisingly, I have a taste for the Confucian classics and the Zhu Xi school at that.” And every year he gives an orientation in a sinological seminar on ancient Chinese reference materials and the use of the four-corner classification system. His “lifelong interest in aviation has led me to some interesting things. I design flying scale models of historic aircraft, and efforts have resulted in popular model kits and magazine plans as well.”
Dr. Marsha T. Wallace, CW’72, associate professor of medicine at George Washington University Hospital, was recently elected to the board of the Chronic Fatigue Association of America. She has been in private practice in internal medicine in Washington, D.C., for 18 years and has developed a special interest in treating patients with Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome. In her “spare” time, she chairs the Rescue Network of the English Cocker Spaniel Club of America. And she shares her home in Alexandria, Va., with her three English cocker spaniels, two of which are retired show champions.

She had been a partner in the Philadelphia law firm of Ballard, Spahr, Andrews & Ingersoll, where she was a member of its health-care group. She continues to lecture frequently on health-law issues; she spoke on “Business Ethics and Law in Health Care in the 90s and Beyond” at the 1997 Health Law Update and Annual Meeting of the recently merged National Health Lawyers Association/American Academy of Health Care Attorneys. She is the author of a health-law treatise, Patient Care Decision-Making: A Legal Guide for Providers (1991), which is updated annually. And she is an associate editor of The Journal of Clinical Ethics, and her column on issues in health law and ethics for institutional providers will start with the spring issue.

Matt is founding partner of MacWilliams Cosgrove Smith Robinson, a political-consulting and media firm; Leah is senior editor for AARP Bulletin, the national newspaper of the American Association of Retired Persons. Both work from home, keeping in touch with their Washington, D.C., offices via the wonders of technology. They have three children, Patrick (11), Benjamin (nine), and Allegra (six).
Anita Kramer, C’80, is a director in First Chicago’s asset-backed finance department. Until recently, she has specialized in international asset-backed securitizations, but has just been appointed to a new securitization team dedicated to emerging asset classes and new structures.
Dr. Douglas A. Nyhoff, C’80, lives in Atlanta, with his wife, Norma, and their seven-year-old daughter, Norma Virginia. He graduated medical school at Emory University in 1984 (graduating cum laude and Alpha Theta Alpha), and was married that same year. Dr. Julian Orenstein, C’80, Potomac, Md., is a pediatric emergency-medicine doctor at Fairfax (Va.) Hospital. His wife and he have three children, all of whom were an inspiration, in one way or another, for his book 365 Ways to Calm a Crying Baby, to be published in June by Adams Media. He is editing Pedistat, a pediatric emergency-medicine textbook on CD-ROM, also to be published this year.
Dr. Rajesh Garg, C’81, is living in New York City with his wife, Madhu, and son, Arjun. He was recently elected principal in McKinsey & Co., Inc., a management-consulting firm, spending the majority of his time serving clients in health-care, including pharmaceuticals, providers, medical supply companies, and insurers. He has worked in the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
Dr. Michael S. Eisenberg, EE’82, and Dr. Laurie Zittrain Eisenberg, C’82, happily report the birth of Benjamin Asher Eisenberg, on December 15. Benjamin’s sisters are Rebecca and Hannah. The Eisenbergs live in Pittsburgh where Michael practices dentistry and Laurie teaches in the history department at Carnegie Mellon University.

She designed an addition to the outpatient center at Altoona Hospital, receiving numerous awards, including the Pittsburgh AIA Citation, and the Vista Award from the American Hospital Association. The project was also featured in the May issue of Architectural Record. In August 1996, she married David Kraybill, and “we reside in a cabin in the woods, in Johnstown, Pa.”

Peter J. Numerof, C’82, is senior scientist at Arris Pharmaceutical Corp., a biotechnology company.
Dr. Amy Alfred, C’84, along with her husband, Evan Levow, are the proud parents of twin daughters, Sarah Alexis, and Victoria Emily, who were born on November 9. When parenthood isn’t keeping them busy, Amy works as a psychologist at a university counseling center and in private practice in Delaware. Evan is a lawyer specializing in criminal defense and personal injury in Cherry Hill, N.J.

Michelle Lynn Toll, C’91, and William Anthony O’Flanagan, C’91, were married in September. Michelle is an attorney with Seyfarth, Shaw, Fairweather & Geraldson, and William is an assistant district attorney in Manhattan.
Joshua Wolf, C’91, and David Flaxman, C’91, have started a cultural walking-tour company called Ole Spain, Inc., and look forward to a successful inaugural season this summer. Dr. Cheryl Bildner, C’92, successfully defended her dissertation and received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Hahnemann University. She is presently employed providing psychological services at rehabilitation hospitals. Cheryl and her husband, Fred H. Nemeth, C’92, L’95, live in Philadelphia, where Fred is an associate in the law firm of Dechert Price & Rhoads.
Seth D. Garland, C’92, and Laura Puleo, C’91, were married in Los Angeles on October 6, 1996. Seth graduated from UCLA School of Law in 1995. He and Laura recently relocated to the Washington, D.C., area where Seth is a litigation associate at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy and Laura is a recruiting manager for American Management Systems, Inc.
Ali Jalili, C’92, [email protected], was married to Courtney Chubb on December 20. He is a foreign-service officer with the State Department.
Sujay Parikh, C’92, [email protected], graduated from Georgetown University Law School in May, and is now working in New York City for Milbank, Tweed, Hadley and McCloy where he is an associate in the international-project finance group of the corporate and banking department.
Chad E. Davis, C’93, [email protected], and Krista Prescop Davis, EAS’93, [email protected], were married in Pittsburgh on September 6. Chad is the chief of staff for Pennsylvania state Senator Joe Conti (R-Bucks). Krista received a master’s degree in epidemiology and is working towards her Ph.D. at the University of Pittsburgh. They live in Harrisburg.
Amy Korn Duque, C’93, G’93, and Juan Carlos Duque, W’92, are proud to announce the birth of their son, Jeremy Nathaniel, on October 23. They live in Washington, D.C., where Juan Carlos is a vice president with Darby Overseas Investments Ltd., a Latin American private-equity fund. John M. Evans, GEd’93, and his wife, Cathy, have been happily moved into their new residence on a 6-acre corn farm in Medford, N.J., for a little over two years now. He is in his third year of teaching high-school math “at my alma mater, Cherokee High School, using all the wise lessons passed down to me from Dr. Jim Larkin.” He is currently working on a(nother) master’s degree in school administration at Rowan University.
Nicholas Grad, C’93, Los Angeles, is director of television development for Columbia/Tri-Star Television.
David M. Hill, EAS’93, New York City, who graduated from New York University Law School in 1996, announces his engagement to Erin M. Siegelbaum. They are to be married on August 30 in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., in a double wedding with Erin’s sister.
Ryan Maierson, W’93, received a J.D. with honors from the University of Texas School of Law in 1996. After completing a judicial clerkship, he is now an associate with the Houston law firm of Bracewell and Patterson. He and Meredith Rosenthal, an associate at the public-affairs consulting firm of Public Strategies, Inc., are engaged to be married in October.
Shannon K. Moffat, C’93, is currently a second-year MBA student at Wharton. Prior to business school, she was a business analyst with the Cleveland office of McKinsey & Company, which she plans to rejoin as an associate in the fall. She is engaged to be married to Clay Johnson in June.
Alla Frenkel Pasternack, C’93, married Adam Pasternack on September 20. After graduating law school at Fordham University, she is with the Philadelphia law firm of Lurio & Associates, specializing in securities law.
Frances Alice Peale, L’93, an attorney with the Washington, D.C., law firm of Lohnes & Albertson, where she specializes in corporate and securities law, married John Kevin Mills in September in New York Ciy.
Anne C. Todd, C’93, the daughter of Alan C. Todd, W’63,is engaged to be married to George “Geep” Keogh III, C’92, the son of the late George P. Keogh Jr., W’63, on June 13 in Winter Park, Fla. Anne will receive her MBA from Harvard Business School on June 4. Geep will receive his medical degree at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons on May 20.
Alice Yang, Nu’93, recently completed a master’s degree in the primary-care, pediatric nurse-practitioner track. She is currently a part-time nurse-practitioner and also is a nurse epidemiologist for disease control at the Philadelphia Department of Public Health.
Robyn Allen, C’94, New York City, married Gary M. Reifman on November 8. She recently joined Andersen Consulting as a human-resources specialist, after spending the last three-and-a-half years in human resources at Salomon Brothers.
Jun S. Bang, C’94, [email protected], graduated from Temple University School of Law in May. Currently, she is an associate at White and Williams, LLP, a Philadelphia law firm; her practice areas are general commercial litigation and labor and employment.
Davora Cohen, C’94, and Michael Peck, C’94, were married on October 19 in Del Mar, Calif., Davora’s hometown. She is a consultant for Hewitt Associates in Bedminster, N.J., and Michael is a fourth-year medical student at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, pursuing a residency in general surgery. They currently live in Piscataway.
Omar A. Khan, C/G’94, [email protected], is still working at the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs, a USAID cooperating agency, as a public-health systems-development specialist. He is also continuing his research activities at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, primarily on HIV-AIDS and related issues in South Asia. He is to be co-chair of the International Health Geographics Conference, which will bring together global experts on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and health, to be held in Baltimore in October. “I remain in close touch with Matt Marlowe, C’94, Murtaza Ali, EAS’95,Nomaan Mirza, EAS/W’95, and Murad Fatehali, W’93.”
Yian-Hong Kith, C’94, e-mails “that I have returned to my native Southern California after three years in New York City. I am currently working as a publications designer as well as working towards my BFA in graphic design at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.”
Jen Kramer, W’94, was promoted to associate licensing manager at Hearst Magazines Brand Development in New York City. She has been working there for about two years. “I also just moved back into the city after a short hiatus of ‘living displacement.'”
Stefanie Rosenthal, C’94, received a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law, and is now an associate with the Houston law firm of Beirne, Maynard & Parsons. She and Douglas Moll, a law professor at the University of Houston, are engaged to be married this month, March 14.
James Maceiko, W’95, e-mails: “So, it was a great weekend back for Homecoming. In addition to celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Penn Band and all the psychotic revelry that went with it, I was able to see some old housemates, Dan Haley, W’96, Gil Beverly, W’96, and Beth Montgomery, Nu’94. As for me, I still sadly live at home on Long Island, and have spent the last year and change as an equities trader with Schonfeld Securities in Jericho, N.Y. Leora Saacks, C’95, and Jonathan Zabusky, W’95, have recently become engaged; the wedding is planned for September, in Harrisburg. Both live and work in New York City: Leora is a consultant at the Monitor Company and Jonathan is in venture capital with Regent Capital.
Jeannette Stankiewicz, Nu’95 GNu’97, completed a master’s of science in nursing at Penn in August and is now board-certified as a gerontological nurse practitioner, with a joint appointment in the School of Nursing and at HUP. She will marry Kevin Kates on April 18.
