MORTYN K. ZIETZ, W’36, Hollywood, Fla., was featured in an article last fall in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. He and his wife (they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary last September) had retired there in 1984; he earlier had practiced law in Rhode Island for many years as a special counsel to large agricultural firms. After two years of retirement, he was bored and soon working from his home as a financial strategist. He later set up a financial consultancy with old friends from the Ft. Lauderdale law firm of Ruden, McClosky, Smith, Schuster, & Russell. Now, at 81 years, he serves as a special counsel there, finding loan funds for emerging companies and working three ten-hour days-the rest of the week is left for golf. “‘If, when, I go to bed at night, I’ve known a little more than when I got up that morning, then it’s been a good day. CLAIRE PINELES GOLD, CW’53, Westport, Conn., former superintendent of schools there, last year was named Connecticut Educator of the Year, for her work on behalf of minority students and the cause of school desegretation. She served as an educational consultant after retiring in 1988, and was instrumental in the establishment of the Six-to-Six magnet school in Bridgeport in 1993; when the Connecticut Supreme Court ordered the state to achieve racial desegregation, this school was cited as a possible model to achieving that.
DUNCAN A. BRUCE, W’54, New York City, writes that he is half-owner in several corporations which invest and trade in the stock market; one of which owns and imports Dram Select, a single-malt Scotch whisky. He wrote The Mark of the Scots, presenting the achievements of people of Scottish ancestry throughout the world, published by Birch Lane Press, last November. REV. MARGARET E. HOWLAND, CW’55, Yonkers, N.Y., recently went white-water rafting for seven days down the Colorado River, running all the rapids for 280 miles through the entire length of the Grand Canyon, and, spent a week scuba-diving and doing underwater photography in the Red Sea on her third trip to Egypt. In October, she had an article on scuba-diving, with several of her photos, published in Markets, a new Dow Jones magazine.

It was based upon a series of hearings he managed for Sen. Sam Nunn (Ga.), who was the ranking Democrat on the U.S. Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. On the job front (with the retirement of Senator Nunn), John was recently hired by Sen. John Glenn (Ohio) as a senior counsel on the Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs, responsible for helping conduct the investigation on campaign-finance abuse in the 1996 Federal election.

JONATHAN V. COHEN, W’78, has become associate chief of the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission. Previously, he directed the FCC’s first auction of wireless telephone licenses (which generated $7.7 billion for the U.S. Treasury) and appears in the Guiness Book of World Records as the largest auction ever. He lives in Bethesda, Md., with his wife, Aileen Miller Cohen, and their kids, Aaron (four) and Hayley (two), for whom he has sacrificed his golf game.

ROBERT LUNDGREN, LAr’82, e-mails that he was third-place winner in a competition for the Indian Memorial proposed by the National Park Service for the Little Big Horn Battlefield National Site in Montana. He was chosen from 550 entrants and received a $5000 cash award. The park service was looking for ideas for a memorial to the Indian victors in the battle of 1876. The three winners were announced in mid-February and a reception was held in Denver in March. James is finishing up his last semester at Columbia University Business School while He Young is an assistant treasurer at Credit Lyonnais in New York City. James’s roommate, TONY DESPIRITO, W’90, is an equity analyst in New York, after graduating from Harvard Law School and working as a lawyer in Boston for a few years. “We still keep in close touch with GREG MERRILL, W’90, who is studying medicine at Yale after working as a consultant and entrepreneur after graduation.”
MILES YAKRE, W’90, Miami, a vice president at John Alden Life Insurance Co., married Judy Ferrao, on August 24; she is a customer-service supervisor in the John Alden group of companies.

Eric is currently interning in family and community medicine at San Francisco General Hospital and will be leaving this June to take up medical training as a hospital house officer in the United Kingdom. Conrad has recently been promoted to engagement manager at Spectrum Strategy Consultants, in London. They will live in central London.

MICHELE STEIN, C’93, is engaged to DENNIS MENDOZA, W’93; they will be married on July 26, in Boston. She is a fourth-grade teacher in Hastings, N.Y. They live in New York City.
MAXIMILIAN WEISE, EAS/W’93, and MIREYA KAM, C/W’93, were married in Panama on December 28. Max was an associate in the Caracas office of Booz Allen & Hamilton and is a first-year MBA student at Wharton. Mireya graduated from Tulane Law School last May and is currently an associate with the law firm of Palmer Biezup & Henderson in Philadelphia, practicing primarily in the areas of maritime law and insurance-defense litigation.

LISA AARONSON, C’95, and MICHAEL ROUB, W’94, were married on July 6, in Los Angeles. They currently reside in Chicago, where Michael is pursuing his MBA at the University of Chicago and Lisa is working in convention management at Smith, Bucklin & Associates.
ADAM ANHANG, W’96, and RONDA JANOWSKI, C’94, New York City, had one of their sheva brachot celebrations, after their wedding on December 22, at the Off-Broadway comedy, Grandma Sylvia’s Funeral. Adam is a real estate investment banker with the Athena Group and Ronda is in her second year at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
SUMA CM, C’96, e-mails that graduation from Penn was not the end for her; she “is she is off and running, working a day job in New York while [also] working as an artist and freelance writer based in Cherry Hill, N.J.” From Monday through Thursday, she is in the medical-acquisitions department at Marcel Dekker, Inc., a scientific-technical-medical publisher in Manhattan. On Fridays and weekends, she’s coming up with designs, filling orders, and seeking new markets for her art and writing. Suma works in a variety of media: watercolors, collages, and recently, she has been using natural materials, especially pressed flowers and leaves.
