He consults on this topic and is responsible for two industrial post-doctoral researchers in New York state, with whom he coordinates by tele-conferencing from his home in Copley, Ohio, where he also does volunteer work for the University of Akron Research Foundation. He has also been granted a recent patent, approximately his 210th, on a phosphorus-based flame retardant which is in commercial evaluation for circuit-board applications. He also advises on environmental aspects of plastics and chemicals.

I highly recommend this to all recent alums: if you’re lucky, your parents will still let you lick the spoon when they bake. After four months of unemployment and licking spoons, I decided to go to med school and am now enrolled at Temple University in Philly. I’m also still freelancing occasionally for National Geographic magazine and recently had a piece in the September issue.”

Joanna A. Johnston C’07 and Jonathan R. Stott C’07 L’10 became engaged in the spring, and will marry in August 2010 in Philadelphia. She is an associate at the Civitas Group, a Washington-based advisory and investment firm that specializes in national security, and he is a third-year law student at Penn.

08 | Kerith Finegan Nu’08 married Jay Hiatt C’06 on April 25 at Woodland Presbyterian Church in West Philadelphia; the reception took place at a Victorian home in East Oak Lane. Bridesmaids included Janine van Vliet C’08, Camille Hardiman C’07, Amani Hirr C’07, and Stefanie Lenz C’08; the groomsmen included Ryan Strash EAS’06. Several alumni also attended the celebration. “Jay and Kerith met in 2004 at a Bible study through InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, and started dating after he asked her out on the steps of an Engineering building. They honeymooned in Belize and just bought a house in West Philadelphia; she is a registered nurse and he is a high-school teacher.”
