“Genius Grant” Nurses Excellence

Dr. Sarah Kagan, associate professor of gerontological nursing in Penn’s School of Nursing, has been named one of the MacArthur Fellows for 2003 in recognition of her work with older cancer patients. She will receive a five-year, $500,000 grant to use at her own discretion. Often called the “genius grant,” the MacArthur honors the creativity and talents of 24 individuals across different fields. Kagan, the author of Older Adults Coping with Cancer and an advanced practice nurse at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, said she hopes her fellowship “brings great visibility to nurses who dedicate their lives to working with older adults.”
