Vice President Joe Biden has been selected to deliver the University’s 257th Commencement address on May 13.

The nation’s 47th vice president has demonstrated leadership on a wide range of domestic and international issues. Biden was charged with implementing the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, worked to secure Senate approval of the New START nuclear arms reduction treaty with Russia, and recently chaired a national task force on gun violence. Prior to joining the executive branch, Biden represented Delaware in the US Senate for 36 years, chairing both the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He played a substantial role in drafting the 1994 Crime Bill and the Violence Against Women Act. As the father of two Penn graduates and the grandfather of a current College freshman, the vice president also has personal ties to the University.
