1930s

Sydney A. Altman W’37 was elected chair of the Boca Raton Community Hospital Foundation in March. Serving on the board since 1993, he was chair of the Benefactors’ Society, its fundraising arm. He continues his service on the board of the Florida Atlantic University Foundation, where he has been a member for more than 20 years.

1940s

Allen E. Rudney WEv’40 writes that after Penn he served in the U.S. Army finance department 1941-45, and was discharged as a major. “After returning to civilian life, I passed my CPA exam and entered the public-accounting profession. I joined my brother, Frank H. Rudney WEv’31, and formed the firm of Rudney & Rudney. I am presently employed part-time with Rudney, Solomon, Cohen & Felzer, CPAs. My greatest thrill came last December when my oldest grandchild, Scott L. Solomon, was admitted to Wharton. He will be a great asset to the University.”

Ann Wentz Webster Ed’46 writes that she is “still supervisor in the make-up department [and research assistant] at the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach, Calif. This is my 34th year, and I still really love the research work that sends me to museums around the world. My latest was in Paris and Zermatt, Switzerland … We are now working on the 2000 pageant, [and] rehearsing our 1999 show for July and August.”

Grayce Kaneda Uyehara PSW’47 was honored with a lifetime community-service award by the Association for Asian American Studies at its 16th national conference in Philadelphia in April. This was in recognition of the central role she played in obtaining the passage of redress legislation for Japanese Americans who were interned during the Second World War.

Hon. Harold Berger EE’48 L’51, a managing principal and senior partner of the law firm of Berger & Montague, P.C., has been appointed to the board of overseers of the School of Engineering and Applied Science. He is a former judge of the Philadelphia Common Pleas Court.

1950s

Dr. P. Roy Vagelos C’50, chair of the trustees of the University and the former chair and CEO of Merck & Co., received the distinguished-alumni award of the School of Arts and Sciences in late April.

Morris J. Dean C’51, Bryn Mawr, Pa., an attorney with the Philadelphia law firm of Blank, Rome, Comisky & McCauley who specializes in real-estate law, was last year appointed to the Montgomery County Redevelopment Authority.

Jeremy Goldstein W’52 had an exhibition of his color photographs at the Burrison Art Gallery in Penn’s Faculty Club last year. Retiring from the legal practice in 1997, he finds photography a challenging and creative way to occupy his time.

Dr. Robert S. Maurer C’53 <bmaurer107@ aol.com> is currently enrolled in the health-policy fellowship program of the American Osteopathic Association. He recently retired from his full-time position as associate professor of family medicine in the School of Osteopathic Medicine of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

Jeffrey Rose C’53 serves as executive vice president of the Roy and Roxie Campanella Foundation, which assists people living with spinal-cord injury. He has also been elected to the same position with the Forgotten Heroes Foundation, which raises funds to help with medical and living expenses for former Major League and Negro League baseball players who were not included in the sport’s pension plan. He also wrote, produced and emceed a tribute to Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully before a sold-out house of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences at its Leonard Goldenson Theatre in Los Angeles.

Martin Price Ar’55, professor of architecture at the University of Texas at Arlington, has been internationally recognized over the last two decades for his highway designs that are well-integrated into surrounding lansdcapes. His 1983 exhibition, How Nature Forms, that toured Finland and Scandinavian countries, Britain and this country, and the book versions of it, were well-praised. Last year he lectured in the Czech Republic, this year in Spain, and next year, Mexico. This year he also was cited by his university for his “distinguished record of creative activity.”

Dr. James D. Hardy Jr. G’56 Gr’61 is professor of history at Louisiana State University. He co-wrote Age of Iron: English Renaissance Tropologies of Love and Power which was published last year by the LSU Press.

Dr. Robert B. Daroff C’57 M’61 was given a distinguished-service award by the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society in the spring. He is chief of staff and senior vice president of University Hospitals of Cleveland and professor of neurology and associate dean of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He is also editor-in-chief emeritus of Neurology, the official journal of the American Academy of Neurology, and a past president of the American Neurological Association.

Randall D. Luke C’57 L’60, of counsel with the Cleveland law firm of Hahn, Loeser & Parks LLP, co-wrote and co-edited Securitization, which is a survey of the law and practice of securitization in 16 countries.

Dr. George H. Heilmeier EE’58 was appointed in December to the board of TeleTech Holdings, Inc., a Denver-based company that provides customer-management services to Fortune 500 and international firms.

Dr. Jay I. Glat D’59, White Plains, N.Y.,was elected president of the Dental Society of the State of New York in February. He has practiced general dentistry in New York since 1963.

Dr. Douglas L. Wilson G’59 Gr’64, professor emeritus of English and American literature at Knox College and retired director of the Knox Library there, received the Lincoln Prize in April for his Honor’s Voice: The Transformation of Abraham Lincoln, published by Alfred A. Knopf last year.

1960s

Dr. Gail Kurtz H. McAllister Nu’60 GNu’62 GrN’84 retired as professor and division chair at the School of Nursing of The College of New Jersey. She and her husband, Michael McAllister, are moving to Avon, N.C., where they will live on Hatteras Island in a house facing Pamlico Sound. Their son, Ernie Hilbert, is completing his dissertation in English literature at St. Catherine’s College, University of Oxford, and their other son, David, is finishing his second year in a graduate program in microbiology at Temple University. E. Gerald Riesenbach W’60, chair of the business-law group at the Philadelphia law firm of Cozen and O’Connor, was recently appointed to the Center City Advisory Board of Jefferson Bank.

Dr. William E. Watson C’60, Narberth, Pa.,was appointed assistant professor of history at Immaculata College last year. He had taught at Drexel and La Salle universities.

Michael R. Belman W’61, senior vice president at Prudential Securities, is finishing his third year as chair of the Jewish Federation of Philadelphia. He is married to Corinne Badder Belman C’60 and they have two children, Felice, city editor of The Concord Monitor in New Hampshire, and Albert, with Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong.

Joe Doyle C’61 <jdoyle@interflexgroup .com> recently welcomed his son, Steve Doyle C’86 WG’90, to the Interflex Group as co-chair after a 12-year career, which included business consulting with BCG and investment banking in the U.S. and Europe. Their company opened an operation in Brazil this year and they plan to expand operations in this country as well.

Judith Miller Feller CW’61 <judyf@csrlink .net> retired in January after 30 years as government-documents librarian at East Stroudsburg University. “Now I can go back to writing and doing my own research (rather than someone else’s).”

Bonnie Dinsmore Kerrick Nu’62 is director of publications at Saint Edward’s School in Vero Beach, Fla.

Edward J. Bergman C’63 is an attorney practicing in Princeton, N.J., who also teaches negotiation and dispute-resolution at the Wharton School. He edited Court-Annexed Mediation: A Critical Perspective on Selected State and Federal Programs, published this year by Pike & Fischer.

Lois Kerkeslager Herr G’63, Manheim, Pa., was last year appointed director of marketing and public affairs at Elizabethtown College.

Dr. David Luhrsen C’63, dean of the Rinker School of Business at Palm Beach Atlantic College, was elected chair of the Palm Beach County Workforce Development Board in January.

Dr. George E. Andrews Gr’64 the Evan Pugh Professor of Mathematics at Pennsylvania State University, was awarded an honorary doctoral degree by the University of Parma in Italy for his contributions to the advancement of theoretical physics, in particular statistical mechanics.

Dr. Jeremy A. Sabloff C’64, the Williams Director of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology and the University Museum Term Professor of Anthropology, was elected a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in May.

Peter C. Ward L’64, previously of counsel to the law firm of Baker, Donelson, Bearman & Caldwell in its Jackson, Miss., office, has relocated his antitrust and trade-regulation practice to the Nashville office, where he works with the firm’s health-law group.

Beverly Rutman Budin CW’65 has joined Ballard, Spahr, Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP as a partner in its Philadelphia office; she concentrates her practice in estate and tax planning and estate and trust administration. She also serves as an adjunct professor in the graduate-tax program at Villanova University Law School.

Andrew H. Cohn C’66 recently completed a term as chair of the real estate section of the Boston Bar Association; he still serves on its steering committee. Elected recently to the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, he is now listed in current editions of The Best Lawyers in America, Who’s Who in American Law and Who’s Who in America.

C. Murray Saylor Jr. W’66 WG’67, a personal-finance specialist and estate planner in Atlanta, was elected treasurer of the American Association of Attorney-Certified Public Accountants at its convention earlier this year.

Kenneth J. Artis C’67 <kenartis@yahoo .com> has been named general counsel and secretary of Hypercosm, Inc. (www.hypercosm3d.com). Based in Madison, Wis., this software firm has successfully developed the programming needed to express 3-D renderings, with behavior, in a two-dimensional environment.

Marsha Inselman Atkind CW’67 has been elected a national vice president of the National Council of Jewish Women, a non-profit volunteer organization that seeks to improve the quality of life for women, children and families in the United States and Israel. Her responsibilities will include chairing the investment committee and the editorial board of the NCJW Journal.

Dr. Robert F. Hoffman Gr’67 received the volunteer-leadership award of United Way of Gloucester County (N.J.). He served as its general-campaign chair in 1995, raising $2.6 million. A retired director of environmental and human relations for ICI Polyurethanes, he serves as a consultant to Penn’s chemical-engineering department.

Harvey J. Jacob C’67 e-mails that late in life, at age 50, he became an attorney, and is associated with the firm of Shapiro & Shapiro, P.C., in Cherry Hill, N.J. He received his LLM in taxation from Temple Law School in May.

Jonathan Kane W’67 has joined the Philadelphia law firm of Pepper Hamilton LLP as a partner in its Berwyn office. Previously a shareholder with the firm of Gollatz, Griffin & Ewing, P.C., he was manager of its labor relations and employment section.

Michael Sales W’67 <mjsales@mediaone .net> participated in the panel “Executive Competence in the New Millennium: Implications for Organization Development” at the World Future Society’s Ninth General Assembly in Washington last July. He wrote that he would be on staff again at the Power & Leadership Conference on Cape Cod, which “creates a society through which people learn about themselves and social-system dynamics.” This is Michael’s 15th year on staff there.

James S. Cahn C’68 is a partner in the Cleveland law firm of Hermann, Cahn & Schneider. He is also a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and a master in the Korean art of TaeKwonDo: he taught a course in stretching, breathing and meditation exercises for stress reduction and management at the academy’s mid-year meeting in Tucson in March.

Dr. Carolyn M. Jackson SW’68, Tucson, Ariz., is outreach manager of the family-advocacy program at Davis Monthan Air Force Base. She was elected to the board of the National Association of Social Workers last year.

Neal Pollock C’68 recently returned from a cruise on the Sky Princess from Sydney to New Zealand, Fiji, Samoa, American Samoa, Bora Bora, Moorea and Tahiti. On American Samoa, he visited the 53rd of the 54 U.S. national parks. “Fantastic.”

Rich Sabreen C’68 is worldwide general manager for radio and television at Bloomberg L.P. This includes oversight of Bloomberg’s flagship New York radio station WBBR AM, nine worldwide networks as well as national radio and television operations.

William J. Woodward Jr. C’68 is the I. Herman Stern Professor of Law at Temple University. He is chair of the commercial-law section for the Association of American Law Schools and co-chair of the ABA’s business-law education committee.

Dr. David B. Freiman C’69 M’73 reports that after “having had Presbyterian Hospital bought out from under me by the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center I have now returned to HUP as interim chief of interventional radiology. I am an oral examiner for the American Board of Radiology, as well as a figure-skating judge and referee for the United States Figure Skating Association. My wife Arlene, I and our three children are in the midst of the trials and tribulations of college admission for the middle one.”

1970s

Harriet Hankin CW’70 is president and partner of CGI Consulting Group, Inc., an employee-benefits design and administration company based in Malvern, Pa., and is proud to announce two new clients, DPRC and Technisource, both national providers of information-technology services. She was recently a featured panelist for the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce “Women Taking Charge” engagement. She also spoke at the conference on outsourcing given by the International Quality and Productivity Center in Scottsdale, Ariz., earlier this year on “AmeriGas Warms Up to Outsourcing: The Inside Hows and Whys of a Well-managed Outsourcing Relationship and an Incredible ROI.”

Maury Nunes C/W’70 has accepted an adjunct professorship at Georgetown University Law School. He was also recently re-elected to chair of the State of Virginia Board for Professional and Occupational Regulation.

This month (July) he will speak at the Eighth Pediatric Pulmonology and Cystic Fibrosis Congress in Salvador, Brazil.

Ellen Tarlow Weidner CW’70 <etw@ browser.net> e-mails that she “was traumatically brain injured in a bike accident in Wiscassett, Maine, in 1981. I now sit in a wheelchair due to my paralysis. I have written my autobiography and am looking for an editor and eventual publisher. I am living with my mother in Bethlehem, Pa., working at Radnor High School in the guidance office.”

John R. Feldman W’71 has joined the metro New York practice of Arthur Andersen LLP as a managing director in its global structured-finance and leasing practice. He was with Chase Securities Inc.

Bob Hallock W’71 <bob1832@aol.com> is general manager of Lion Brothers Headwear, which manufactures baseball caps and other headwear. He lives in Baltimore with his wife, Fritzi Kolker Hallock CW’83, has two children, Stephen (16) and Amanda (five), and performs Jewish “non-traditional” music for synagogues in Maryland.

Dr. William E. Jackson Gr’72, associate professor and chair of German literature at the University of Virginia, received its outstanding-faculty award in May for his contributions to the mentoring program of its Office of African American Affairs and his support of African American students there over the past three decades.

James D. Morris C’72 L’75 <jdmorris-lsm@ msn.com> participated in a panel on “Due Diligence and ASTM Phase I/II” at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute’s Fourth Annual Environmental Law Forum in Harrisburg in April.

Dr. Zoltan Nagy Gr’72, a senior scientist at the Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois, was last year elected a fellow of the Electrochemical Society, for his “unique, experimental and theoretical studies of fundamental electrochemical processes and for his devoted service to the society.”

Dr. Georgia Robins Sadler Nu’72 WG’73 is associate professor of surgery at the University of California at San Diego School of Medicine and associate director for outreach at the UCSD Cancer Center. She lives in La Jolla with her husband, Blair L. Sadler, and daughters, Noelle and Nicole. In March she was named the woman of the year for the 78th California Assembly District, for her efforts to inform poor and minority women in San Diego about free breast-cancer detection and treatment.

Dr. Joel Sunkin C’72 and his wife, Beth, are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Rebecca, on February 14; she weighed 8 lbs. 4 ozs. and was born on her due date. The Sunkins live in Los Angeles where Joel is a clinical psychologist in private practice and Beth is an educational therapist also in private practice.

Robert Wemischner C’72 is writing his third book, about cooking with tea, to be published next spring by Tuttle. In addition to writing and teaching culinary arts full-time, he is a corporate chef for Barnes and Watson, a premium-tea company based in Seattle.

Dr. Joe Williams C’72 <MSquid@aol.com> a dentist practicing in Ventnor, N.J., was awarded the Michael Lanza prize for poetry composition by Richard Stockton College.

Prof. Robert F. Blomquist W’73, a professor of law at Valparaiso University in Indiana for the last 13 years, will speak at the national conference “Is Environmental Alternative Dispute Resolution Working in America?” in Indianapolis this October. During the spring semester next year, he will be on sabbatical as a visiting professor and scholar at the Environmental Law Centre of the Australian National University in Canberra, where he will conduct research and teach on Australian biodiversity law. Charles E. Dorkey III L’73, a partner in the Manhattan law firm of Haythe & Curley, was elected to the board of the New York Historical Society last October.

Robert C. Epstein W’73 has joined the law firm of Porzio, Bromberg & Newman, based in Morristown, N.J., as a principal in its commercial and business litigation practice group.

Ralph A. Jacobs C’73 C’75 is a litigation partner in the Philadelphia law firm of Hoyle, Morris & Kerr LLP who concentrates his practice on Internet law and complex commercial litigation. In February he spoke at the American Intellectual Property Law Association on law in cyberspace.

Pam Horvitz Schneider CW’73, Bryn Mawr, Pa., a partner in the personal and fiduciary law department of the Philadelphia law firm of Drinker, Biddle & Reath, received the 1998 distinguished estate-planner award from the Philadelphia Estate Planning Council.

Lee Watkins C’73 <lee@hosatech.com> has been promoted to vice president-general manager of Hosa Technology, Inc., in Buena Park, Calif., which manufactures cables, adaptors and accessories for audio and video professionals and professional musicians. Lee signed on as sales manager there in 1988.

Anthony S. Bartolomeo CE’74 was named president and chief operating officer of Pennoni Associates, Inc., a consulting-engineering firm based in Philadelphia.

James H. Brothers IV C’74 retired from the Army/Army Reserves last September after 22 years. In the spring he passed the orals for an MA in historical archaeology at the College of William & Mary; the topic is Colonial iron furnaces of Virginia. He recently took part in the excavation of two 19th-century canal boats in Richmond. His wife, Joanne Hehre Brothers CW’77, received her master-gardener’s certification from Virginia Tech. Their eldest daughter, Nancy, a junior at the Chesterfield County Mathematics and Science High School, has been accepted into the National Honor Society and is a National Merit Commended Scholar; she participated in an exchange program in the U.K. last year and this summer has gone to Hrawa, Japan, as part of another exchange. Last year she also studied archaeology in Ireland with the Center for Talented Youth, International. Meredith, their middle daughter, will start high school at the Governor’s School for Government and International Studies in the fall, and Elizabeth will be entering middle school at the Collegiate School. Sandy (James V) is still in nursery school.

Ralph D. Caparulo GFA’74 has been hired as an adjunct professor of art and art history at the Schenectady County Community College (SUNY) in Schenectady, N.Y. He is also a member of the studio teaching staff at Rensselaer County Council on the Arts in Troy and an associate of the University Without Walls program at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs. In the spring he had work showing at the 49th annual competition in Fort Smith, Ariz., an invitational exhibit at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and in the Texas National at the Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. In June he had a solo show at Village Gallery in Galway, N.Y., an affiliate of the Saratoga County Arts Council, and a sculpture included in the Three Rivers Arts Festival in Pittsburgh. With his wife, Nancy, he is restoring an 18th-century post-and-beam farmhouse in upstate New York, with the goal of running it as a B&B by next year.

Walter Updegrave C’74 <walter_updegrave @moneymail.com> has written Investing for the Financially Challenged, which was published by Warner Books in June. He describes it as “a funny but practical guide to investing designed for anyone intimidated or confused by things financial.” The author of The Right Way to Invest in Mutual Funds and How to Keep Your Savings Safe, he notes that although he majored in economics he has never let that “obstacle” prevent him “from bringing wit, humor and commonsense analysis to personal finance.”

Dr. Irving Kuo C’75 will return to medical academia this month (July) after five years of private practice in Hot Springs, Ark., teaching outpatient and consultation-liaison psychiatry at the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences School of Medicine. He is happily married to Gayla Bowden-Kuo, director of the Garland County Court’s special advocacy program for abused children.

Nancy Pressman Morgenstern CW’75 <NPMorg@aol.com> sends her greetings from a former resident of College House, the glory days of the Quad, and the soon-to-be-extinct Stouffer Triangle. After graduating Penn, she stayed in the area to get her law degree from Temple in 1978, somehow never returning to her native New York City area. “It is incredible to realize that I have now lived in the DelVal region and have been practicing law (with a concentration on matrimonial and family law) for over 20 years. Having avoided more traditional law-firm affiliations, choosing to start my own practice in the early 80s made it possible for me to stay active and also raise two wonderful—albeit high-maintenance—children. Also enabling this was my equally wonderful and long-suffering husband, who still listens to me play old Joan Baez and Bob Dylan songs in a vain attempt to relive my youth. Most recently, I joined the Savoy Company in Philly to sing Gilbert & Sullivan operettas with two other Penn grads, Gene Schneyer C’75 and Debra Appel CW’75. Unfortunately, the saddest news for me of these recent years has been the loss of my brother, Dr. Jack Pressman G’82 Gr’86, who died suddenly in 1997. Jack was a medical historian and professor at the U.C. San Francisco Medical School at the time of his death. A wonderful memorial service for him was held on campus last year. I would be very interested to hear via e-mail from any former students, faculty or friends I have not yet met who may have known my brother from his happy times here.”

Barbara Ross CW’75 is vice president of educational services at Universal Learning Technology in Peabody, Mass., where she is responsible for educational material in Bravo!, an Internet-based application which caters to varying styles of learning by incorporating recent research on learning and the brain. In her spare time she is a mystery writer.

Dr. Victor B. Siew M’75, an internist practicing in Fountain Valley, Calif., was elected a fellow of the American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine in January. He lives in Laguna Beach with his wife, Christina, and two children, Serena and Melissa.

David Chanko W’77 e-mails that “it is now five years since I left the rat race of New York City and its government and moved to the Blue Mountains of eastern Oregon.” He is the administrator for the Prairie City government, and teaches economics and finance at Eastern Oregon University. His wife, Joni, runs the county’s pre-natal and teen-pregnancy programs. “Our children, Daniel and Ariel, are home-schooled. We love it.”

Hope A. Comisky L’77 has joined the Philadelphia law firm of Pepper Hamilton LLP as a partner. Previously managing partner of the Philadelphia office of the firm Anderson, Kill & Olick Ewing, she concentrates her practice in employment-law litigation and counseling.

Bruce Curley C’77 <eamon@erols.com> wrote “This Broken Silence” in Beyond Lament: Poets of the World Bearing Witness to the Holocaust, edited by Marguerite Striar and published last year by Northwestern University Press (www.press.uillinois.edu).

Gail Rubinstein Lipton C’77 GEd’78 recently relocated to Maryland with her husband, Barry, and their son, Philip (nine). She is a senior-grants and financial-policy specialist with the Administration for Children and Families in Washington, developing and interpreting policy for programs which affect the lives of children and families, including Head Start and TANF.

David F. Simon L’77, chief legal officer of Aetna U.S. Healthcare, in May presented a grant of $10,000 to Penn’s radio station, WXPN, to help underwrite its program, Kid’s Corner.

Laura Zimmer-Tamakoshi C’77 <lzt@truman .edu> became chair of the Association for Social Anthropology in Oceania in February. She edited Modern Papua New Guinea, published by Thomas Jefferson University Press last year. Currently she is on sabbatical, working on an online course on cultures of the Pacific.

Patricia Sons Biswanger C’78 L’93 recently joined the Philadelphia law firm of Cozen and O’Connor as an associate in its commercial-litigation department.

Dr. Cindi Bossart V’78 and her husband, Jim Efron, celebrated the success of their Rough Collie, Ch. Glenhill Argent Quantum Leap, as best in breed in the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in February. He is also a “Purina Chosen by Champion” dog and has been featured in that company’s advertising since the spring. In addition to Quantum’s honors, Ch. The pieces are collaborative works from a series, Shelf Life, that symbolize “Florida being processed, labeled and shipped. It’s the commodification of the sunshine experience.”

Brooke Burdett C’89 lives in Buenos Aires, teaching English as second language to adult professionals, and refining her tango techniques and understanding of this dance, which originated in Buenos Aires. She also assists in escorting tango tours from America to Buenos Aires and is currently involved in production of instructional tango videos taught by the Argentine masters. She has also made a series of instructional videos sold over the Internet. She teaches tango on tour in the U.S., January to March each year.

Thomasenia Duncan L’89 has joined the Corporation of National Service as general counsel; previously she was an associate with the Washington law firm of Covington and Burling, handling civil-rights and contracts litigation.

Kimberly Fleisher C’97 <reiki@critpath .org> is director and owner of The Reiki School and Clinic, in Philadelphia; it is Philly’s first natural-healing center with a focus soley on reiki. “I found reiki (or it found me) while I was studying abroad in Israel, my junior year at Penn. I couldn’t [have] known then that Penn would’ve led me in such unusual directions. Life is great.”

Asia Slowe C’97 writes that she is happily engaged to Tracy Mark Willams; the wedding date has yet to be confirmed. “We have been living together for the past two years in northern Virginia and we absolutely love the area. He is truly my soulmate and I thank God every day that he is such a vital part of my life.” Asia completed her second year as the eighth-grade English teacher at Flint Hill School. She taught a sixth-grade creative-writing elective this year and next year will add an African American literature elective for high-school juniors and seniors. “As with all who teach in independent schools, I wear many hats: I am an eighth-grade advisor both officially and unofficially; the leader of inspiration, which means I assist each eighth-grade student in his/her 15-minute presentation to the entire middle school on what inspires him/her; I sit on faculty/administration committees geared to school improvement, and the list continues. Did I mention that I have been the only black faculty member (JK-12) for the past two years in a row?” Asia also reports that she has been accepted into a master’s program at Georgetown University and will begin part-time studies in communications this fall: “I cannot wait to return to school.” She is in regular contact with Winnifer Thomas-Cox W’97 “whose second child will be cooing away by the time this news is printed. She is working hard as a consultant for Arthur D. Little in Arlington; her son, ‘Scoobie,’ and husband, David, are well. I am also in regular contact with Chris Lake C’95 who has recently completed his master’s in social work at Simmons College in Boston. I live a hop, skip and a jump away from Diallo Crenshaw EAS’96 however, I do not see him often, due to our very busy schedules. Alli Feldman C’98 is working for the New York law firm of Skadden Arps. She is planning to go to law school in the near future.

Susan McCabe Schupansky L’98 has joined the Pittsburgh office of Reed, Smith, Shaw & Clay LLP as an associate.

Quinn Schwenker GAr’98, Washington Crossing, Pa., has joined the architectural firm of Ford, Farewell, Mills & Gatsch in Princeton, N.J. He is involved in the restoration and renovation of the Miller Chapel at the Princeton Theological Seminary and the design of the adjacent office building.

Lindsay P. Stern C’99 <mail3636@aol.com> is head of the start-up company 36/36, which markets customized Penn and Wharton golf bags. She got the idea in the spring of 1998 when she and Penn golf coach Francis Vaughn began planning for a Penn women’s varsity golf team.
