He serves on the boards of a number of local arts and educational organizations there, and often gives courses on music history. And he is in his sixth year as organizer and moderator of the Burning Issues Symposia; the subject this year was the healthcare crisis. “I am also one of the driving forces in Floridians for Health Care, a fast-growing group fighting to reverse current trends.” The group has been working within Palm Beach County, but is preparing to organize statewide.

Dr. Jerome Zwanger, C’44, president of the Class, is now semi-retired, but still active in the practice of radiology in Long Island. Formerly a member of the New York State Board of Medicine, he now serves on its Board of Professional Medical Conduct. He is a past president of the Nassau County Medical Society, the New York State Radiological Society, and a founding member (now president) of the Nassau Academy of Medicine. He was a member of the faculty of the SUNY College of Medicine at Stony Brook and the Downstate Medical Center. He served two terms on the Board of Overseers of Penn’s School of Arts and Sciences. And he is a member of the Visiting Committee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Two of his daughters are alumni, Betsy Zwanger Polur, W’85, and Melissa Zwanger Oster, WG’87, as is Betsy’s husband, Lawrence Polur, W’85.
Alice Lee Chun, NEd’47, Ed’48, writes that in her long career in nursing and nursing administration, she has been the first person of Chinese heritage to serve in a number of organizations: she was an assistant director of Coney Island Hospital; assistant director of the National League for Nursing; and a public-health nurse consultant for the New York City Department of Health. In recent years, she has continued her education, taught for the city and at St. Francis College, and studied traditional Chinese herbal medicine. She lives in Briarwood, N.Y., with her husband, Jip Foo Chun; they have a daughter, Karen, and two sons, Kevin Chun, C’78, and Kendall Chun, EE’85.
Mordecai Gerson, C’49, Bala Cynwyd, Pa., a consultant with John Hancock Financial Services, was honored by the Philadelphia Estate Planning Council in the spring when it re-named its meritorious-service award after him. He had served as president and several terms as membership chair, and this organization is now the second largest of its kind in the country.

Dr. Robert M. Steiner, C’60, has been appointed chair of radiology at the New York Methodist Hospital in Park Slope; he also was appointed professor of radiology at Cornell University and associate chair of radiology at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan. He had been professor of radiology and medicine at Thomas Jefferson University.

Paul G. Humber, C’64, GEd’65, a teacher in the upper school at The Haverford School for more than 20 years, had his first book, Jehovah Jesus (Skilton House Ministries), launched at Westminster Theological Seminary in March. Present were his wife, Prudence String Humber, Nu’66, and their daughter, Ruth Humber Brittain, C’95, who teaches at the Spruce Hill Christian School, close to Penn’s campus. Her twin brother, Paul D. Humber, C’95, is with Wycliffe Bible Translators and currently is studying linguistics in Dallas; he had earlier served in missionary work in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Donald R. Nicholson II, W’64, has been appointed president and CEO of the Central Asian American Enterprise Fund, a federally sponsored investment company operating in all five of the Central Asian countries. He is now based in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, but has spent the past several years as an investment banker to the governments of Turkmenistan and Kazakstan.
Dr. Anthony J. DiMarino Jr., C’65, GM’73, Woodbury, N.J., the William Rorer Professor of Medicine and chief of gastroenterology and hepatology at Thomas Jefferson University, co-edited Gastrointestinal Disease: An Endoscopic Approach. This recently published two-volume set is the first full-color reference work on gastrointestinal disease from the novel perspective of fiberoptic and video endoscopy.
Nancy Worden Horst, CW’65, recently received a master’s degree in geography and environmental science from Towson University, with a certificate in urban planning. She is the executive director of The Towson Partnership, which, guided by “a philosophy of cooperative governance,” provides a forum for the diverse voices that shape Towson, the seat of government for Baltimore County, Md.

Susan Berland Penn, CW’69, Alpine, N.J., writes that she is a “professional” volunteer: she was honored as Woman of the Year by the United Jewish Appeal’s women’s division of Bergen County, and received the Volunteer of the Year award of the Penn Club of Metro New Jersey. She also served as president of her synagogue, and last year was a silver medalist in the Masters Maccabi Tennis Competition in Israel. Her daughter, Stacey, is a senior in the College, and her son, Jonathan Penn, C’97, is a recent graduate. “I married a man named Penn. Dr. Ann L. O’Sullivan, Nu’70, GNu’72, GrN’84, associate professor of pediatric nursing at the University and founding director of, and a pediatric nurse practitioner with, the Teen Baby Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, was honored in April by Women’s Way, the women’s funding organization, for her “unwavering dedication to improving the health and welfare of teen mothers and their chidren.” And in July she received the honorary nursing-practice award of the American Nurses Association.
Peter J. Boyer, C’72, a resident partner in the Cherry Hill, N.J., office of the law firm of Blank, Rome, Comisky & McCauley LLP, who specializes in complex commercial civil litigation, gave a lecture on federal court rules and procedures in April. He also appeared as a guest on a local television program on legal issues.

Dr. William Zachs, C’83, Edinburgh, e-mails that his new book, The First John Murray and the Late Eighteenth-Century London Book Trade, was published in October by Oxford University Press for the British Academy. The book was launched in London in October, with “a small exhibition of items from the Murrays (who are still very much a going concern, indeed the oldest family-run publishing house in the world), and books published by Murray which I’ve been collecting for a while. The project grew out of my first book: Without Regard to Good Manners: A Biography of Gilbert Stuart, 1743-1786, which came out in 1992. I’ve been in Edinburgh for over 15 years now, having come for a year to do a master’s in 1983. I liked Scotland, Edinburgh in particular, and never left. Ironically, I had applied as a junior to the Penn-Edinburgh exchange program; I wasn’t accepted and ended up for a year �abroad’ at Berkeley. There I got into Scottish literature and history — and I suppose the rest is history.”
Sharon Glassman, C’84, debuted her fifth, full-length monologue, Brenda Builds a Pool: a guided tour into the heart of Brooklyn Heights, in October at the Solo Arts Group in Manhattan. Glassman, a writer-performer who tours nationally, will follow Brenda with an encore of her holiday monologue, Undercover Mother, to benefit the U.S. Post Office’s Operation Santa Claus charity, in December. Hon. Mark S. Vavala, C’84, has been sworn in as a master on the Superior Court of Delaware. Lara Strauch Batten, C’89, moved to Hilton Head Island, S.C., with her soulmate and husband, Daniel Batten, in October last year. She has written “five books, numerous short stories, and zillions of poems.” She also mixes media and paints her poetry onto objects; an exhibit of this mixed media form, with demonstrations of the art form, book reading, and a writing workshop, was held in July at the Healing Rays/New Life Gallery, in Charleston.

Nychelle Nguyen, EAS’92, Harrisburg, Pa., is a supply-base manager with AMP Inc., where she has been working since graduation. She received a master’s degree in information systems from Shippensburg University in 1996. She is engaged to David Hallock, and will be married on November 7; the wedding is in Harrisburg and among the guests will be a dozen or so Penn grads.
Linda Stolte, Nu’92, GNu’97, and P. J. Steinkrauss, W’93, were married in Bridgewater, N.J., on July 25. They were surrounded by many Penn friends as they took their vows. The couple will settle outside of Philadelphia as Linda continues to work as a nurse practitioner at CHOP and P. J. is employed in the banking business in Delaware.
Heidi Howard Tandy, C’92, and her husband, Aaron Tandy, have moved from New York to Miami, where Heidi is an intellectual-property associate at Ruden, McClosky, Smith, Schuster & Russell, continuing her concentration on trademarks, copyrights, and Internet issues. Dr. Pete Weimann, EAS/W’92, pweimann@bellsouth.net, completed his Ph.D. in materials science and engineering at the University of Minnesota in May. He relocated to Atlanta in June, where he is working for Lucent Technologies’ Network Systems division as a member of the technical staff in the fiber-optic materials-technology group.
Dr. Morris Davis, C’93, G’95, Gr’98, received a Ph.D. in economics from the University in August. He is currently working as an economist at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Beth Kissileff-Perlman, G’93, Gr’98, received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in comparative literature from the University in May.
Lisa Nass, C’93, L’96, and Dean Grabelle, L’95, are engaged to be married in Philadelphia in July 1999. Lisa is an associate in the labor and employment-relations department of the Philadelphia law firm of Wolf, Block, Schorr and Solis-Cohen, LLP. Dean is an associate in the business and finance department of the Princeton office of the Philadelphia law firm of Drinker, Biddle & Reath, LLP.
Dr. David Yi, C’93, married Sharlene Chang on June 13. They have settled in Dallas, where David started his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. His best friend, Joseph Yuhan, C’94, was best man, and will himself be getting married in May to HaYoung Lee.
Rebecca Coleman W’94, rebecca.coleman.wh94@wharton.upenn.edu, received the Dean’s Scholarship from Brigham Young University and began an MBA there this fall, after having spent the past four years as a market-research analyst in the Los Angeles area. “I’m enjoying Utah right now, but I won’t know how much I miss California until it starts to snow.”
Dana N. Lynch, C’94, GEd’95, married Princetonian Kate Strauss on June 20, in Fullerton, Calif. “We bought a house only four blocks away from her parents so that their future grandchildren could walk and visit. The real challenge comes later when those grandchildren will decide between Penn and Princeton. I know that they will proudly chose the red and blue over the ugly orange and black.” He began teaching social sciences at Rowland High School in Rowland Heights this September; the school was recently designated a National Blue Ribbon High School by the U.S. Department of Education. “I look forward to creating a championship model United Nations program as I did while teaching in Westfield, N.J.”
Drew Pearson, C/W’94, G’94, and Shiva Sarram, C’94, were married on July 4 at the Merion Tribute House in Merion, Pa. Sue Smith, CGS’94, suesmith@pobox.upenn.edu, in July was named associate director for communications in the Office of College Houses and Academic Services at the University. She is also pursuing a Master’s of Landscape Architecture degree at Penn.
Stacia Troester, C’94, and Rob Gillam, W’94, moved to Anchorage two years ago. Since then, Stacia has been working as an account supervisor at The Nerland Agency, an advertising and PR agency. A recent graduate of �Hamburger University,’ she spends most of her time managing the Alaska McDonald’s account. Rob is the head of global and international equities for McKinley Capital Management. His international portfolio was named No. 1 in the world by Nelson’s “World’s Best Money Managers” for 1997.
Melissa C. Barkan, C’95, is engaged to Shawn J. Wallach. Melissa is entering her fourth year of medical school and Shawn is an attorney at a law firm in Manhattan. The wedding is set to take place on March 28, 1999, at Temple Israel in Lawrence, N.Y.
Eric Barker, C’95, Hollywood, Calif., ebarker@idlemind.com, is a screenwriter in Los Angeles, represented at the Writers and Artists Agency. His first movie, “Hitman’s Run,” is currently shooting and a summer 1999 release is expected. “I started a production company, idlemind, and the Web site (www.idlemind.com) should be up [by fall].” In September he began an MFA in the producer’s program of UCLA School of Film and Television (www.filmtv.ucla.edu/producers.html).
Ruth Humber Brittain, C’95, teaches at the Spruce Hill Christian School, located near Penn’s campus. Her twin brother, Paul D. Humber, C’95, is with Wycliffe Bible Translators and currently is studying linguistics in Dallas; he had earlier served in missionary work in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Adam Green, C/W’95, e-mails that he was the first financial analyst to successfully complete all three years in the M&A group at Salomon Brothers in New York, and has been promoted to associate at Salomon Smith Barney. In those three years he worked in a wide range of industries for some of the firm’s largest corporate clients as well as financial buyers and investor groups. To celebrate the successes of the past three years, he recently traveled throughout Asia.

Chi-May Wu, C’95, is happily engaged to Christopher B. Brewer; they plan to wed in August next year. After working for Deloitte & Touche in Washington, D.C., for the past three years, she is attending the Georgetown University MBA program this fall.

Mueller, C’96 , Twentynine Palms, Calif., is a platoon commander with the Third Light Armored Reconnaisance Battalion. He was deployed to South Korea and Japan this fall.
Michelle Nadler, C’96, and Matthew Ingber, C’95, are engaged. Matthew graduated from George Washington Law School in May and has begun his career at the New York City office of Mayer, Brown & Platt. Michelle will graduate Georgetown Law School in 1999, and return to New York where they will be married and will live. “We look forward to sharing our wedding and our lives with lots of friends from Penn.”
Janice Deyoung Breen, GNu’98, has taken a position as vice president of business development at Senior Care Centers of America, and in that role, she has just started a new corporation, Senior CareNet, which offers a network of health services for the elderly. Currently, she is a doctoral student at Rutgers University. Her son, Greg, graduated last year with a BFA from the Tyler School of Art, Temple University. Her daughter, Karen, is a senior at Parsons School of Design, N.Y.
