Julia Reisman Kissileff, Ed’36, writes to proudly announce that her granddaughter, a third-generation Penn graduate, Dr. Beth Kissileff-Perlman, G’93, Gr’98, received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in comparative literature from the University in May.

Dr. H. David Prensky, C’38, D’43, a retired dentist who had spent most of his professional life in Mexico, moved to Palm Beach, Fla., in 1982. He serves on the boards of a number of local arts and educational organizations there, and often gives courses on music history. And he is in his sixth year as organizer and moderator of the Burning Issues Symposia; the subject this year was the healthcare crisis. “I am also one of the driving forces in Floridians for Health Care, a fast-growing group fighting to reverse current trends.” The group has been working within Palm Beach County, but is preparing to organize statewide.

1940s

Austin R. Miller, ChE’40, L’47, an attorney who specializes in patent law, has joined the Philadelphia law firm of Schnader, Harrison, Segal & Lewis LLP, as counsel in its intellectual-property department.

Kenneth C. Anderson, C’43, GAr’49, Fairfax, Va., won first prize in the Creative Writing Festival of Washington, D.C., with the poem “When We Were Nine,” impressions from his childhood years in the little town of Pennington, N.J. At Penn, he had been a writing student of Drs. John C. Mendenhall, Cornelius Weygandt, and E. Scully Bradley.

Dr. Jerome Zwanger, C’44, president of the Class, is now semi-retired, but still active in the practice of radiology in Long Island. Formerly a member of the New York State Board of Medicine, he now serves on its Board of Professional Medical Conduct. He is a past president of the Nassau County Medical Society, the New York State Radiological Society, and a founding member (now president) of the Nassau Academy of Medicine. He was a member of the faculty of the SUNY College of Medicine at Stony Brook and the Downstate Medical Center. He served two terms on the Board of Overseers of Penn’s School of Arts and Sciences. And he is a member of the Visiting Committee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Two of his daughters are alumni, Betsy Zwanger Polur, W’85, and Melissa Zwanger Oster, WG’87, as is Betsy’s husband, Lawrence Polur, W’85.

Alice Lee Chun, NEd’47, Ed’48, writes that in her long career in nursing and nursing administration, she has been the first person of Chinese heritage to serve in a number of organizations: she was an assistant director of Coney Island Hospital; assistant director of the National League for Nursing; and a public-health nurse consultant for the New York City Department of Health. In recent years, she has continued her education, taught for the city and at St. Francis College, and studied traditional Chinese herbal medicine. She lives in Briarwood, N.Y., with her husband, Jip Foo Chun; they have a daughter, Karen, and two sons, Kevin Chun, C’78, and Kendall Chun, EE’85.

Mordecai Gerson, C’49, Bala Cynwyd, Pa., a consultant with John Hancock Financial Services, was honored by the Philadelphia Estate Planning Council in the spring when it re-named its meritorious-service award after him. He had served as president and several terms as membership chair, and this organization is now the second largest of its kind in the country.

1950s

Dr. George S. Claghorn, Gr’53, edited the 16th volume, Personal Letters, in the series, The Works of Jonathan Edwards; it was published by Yale University Press in May.

Beverly Miller Litwin, Nu’57, McLean, Va., retired from Sibley Hospital and started the first parish-nurse program in the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, based at All Souls Memorial Episcopal Church. Jean e-mails that the program has been “well-received and proven worthwhile and I’m now being asked to help other parishes set up programs. I have five children and 12 grandchildren.”

1960s

Dr. Robert M. Steiner, C’60, has been appointed chair of radiology at the New York Methodist Hospital in Park Slope; he also was appointed professor of radiology at Cornell University and associate chair of radiology at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan. He had been professor of radiology and medicine at Thomas Jefferson University.

Frank J. Pfizenmayer, L’61, recently retired from 28 years’ association with Aramark Corporation, as associate general counsel.

Arthur Rosen, C’63, an executive vice president in the Philadelphia office of Tucker Anthony Inc., guided a team of four business students from Villanova University in the Tucker Anthony Big East Stock Challenge last fall and winter.

Paul G. Humber, C’64, GEd’65, a teacher in the upper school at The Haverford School for more than 20 years, had his first book, Jehovah Jesus (Skilton House Ministries), launched at Westminster Theological Seminary in March. Present were his wife, Prudence String Humber, Nu’66, and their daughter, Ruth Humber Brittain, C’95, who teaches at the Spruce Hill Christian School, close to Penn’s campus. Her twin brother, Paul D. Humber, C’95, is with Wycliffe Bible Translators and currently is studying linguistics in Dallas; he had earlier served in missionary work in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Donald R. Nicholson II, W’64, has been appointed president and CEO of the Central Asian American Enterprise Fund, a federally sponsored investment company operating in all five of the Central Asian countries. He is now based in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, but has spent the past several years as an investment banker to the governments of Turkmenistan and Kazakstan.

Dr. Anthony J. DiMarino Jr., C’65, GM’73, Woodbury, N.J., the William Rorer Professor of Medicine and chief of gastroenterology and hepatology at Thomas Jefferson University, co-edited Gastrointestinal Disease: An Endoscopic Approach. This recently published two-volume set is the first full-color reference work on gastrointestinal disease from the novel perspective of fiberoptic and video endoscopy.

Nancy Worden Horst, CW’65, recently received a master’s degree in geography and environmental science from Towson University, with a certificate in urban planning. She is the executive director of The Towson Partnership, which, guided by “a philosophy of cooperative governance,” provides a forum for the diverse voices that shape Towson, the seat of government for Baltimore County, Md.

M. Samuel Self, WG’66, vice president and controller of the data-systems group at Texas Instruments, has been named senior vice president and controller of the company. He also serves on the board of the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas.

B. Herbert Boatner Jr., C’69, has joined the Florida law firm of Fowler, White, Gillen, Boggs, Villareal & Banker, P.A., serving in the public-finance department of its Tampa office.

Judith Bresler, CW’69, has been appointed to the adjunct faculty of the University’s Law School, where she will lecture on art law in the spring semester. She is the co-author of the recently published two-volume Art Law: The Guide for Collectors, Investors, Dealers and Artists.

Robert H. Louis, W’69, has been elected chair of the tax section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. He continues as president of the Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts and as managing shareholder of Abrahams, Loewenstein, Bushman, & Kauffman, P.C.

Susan Berland Penn, CW’69, Alpine, N.J., writes that she is a “professional” volunteer: she was honored as Woman of the Year by the United Jewish Appeal’s women’s division of Bergen County, and received the Volunteer of the Year award of the Penn Club of Metro New Jersey. She also served as president of her synagogue, and last year was a silver medalist in the Masters Maccabi Tennis Competition in Israel. Her daughter, Stacey, is a senior in the College, and her son, Jonathan Penn, C’97, is a recent graduate. “I married a man named Penn. Some people will do anything to keep the memories of Penn alive.”

1970s

Dr. Ann L. O’Sullivan, Nu’70, GNu’72, GrN’84, associate professor of pediatric nursing at the University and founding director of, and a pediatric nurse practitioner with, the Teen Baby Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, was honored in April by Women’s Way, the women’s funding organization, for her “unwavering dedication to improving the health and welfare of teen mothers and their chidren.” And in July she received the honorary nursing-practice award of the American Nurses Association.

Peter J. Boyer, C’72, a resident partner in the Cherry Hill, N.J., office of the law firm of Blank, Rome, Comisky & McCauley LLP, who specializes in complex commercial civil litigation, gave a lecture on federal court rules and procedures in April. He also appeared as a guest on a local television program on legal issues.

Robert Hoffman, W’73, Edmonds, Wash., has been living in the Northwest since 1985. “I am divorced and have a 12-year-old son, Casey. After many years of coaching high-school sports, managing non-profit organizations, and owning several businesses, I have dovetailed all these experiences into my Life Coach practice. It has been very rewarding developing a practical approach to working with people on maximizing their personal effectiveness.” He has recently developed an Internet presence for his coaching practice; visiting his Web site (onegiantstep.com) is “an excellent way to find out how this Penn grad has taken the long and winding road over the past 25 years to find his niche.”

William Keller, C’73, Bayside, N.Y., bkeller 210@worldnet.att.net, was recently appointed deputy commissioner of the New York City Department of Information Technology & Telecommunications. In this position he is responsible for identifying and implementing new technologies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the city’s government. While recently separated, he is kept busy by his two young children and everything else that New York life has to offer.

Dianne Olander, Nu’73, Las Vegas, was recently promoted to department coordinator for L&D, PP, and ob-gyn surgery at the Valley Hospital and Medical Center there. Her daughter, Kristen, graduated as valedictorian from Durango High School, and attends the College, Class of 2002.

Dr. Howard J. Reinstein, C’73, was recently elected to the executive board of the Los Angeles Pediatric Society. He also remains active on the media-resource team of the American Academy of Pediatrics and serves as public-relations coordinator for California Chapter 2.

Andrea Higgins Bierce, CW’74, executive director of marketing for KPMG Peat Marwick LLP, received the Tribute to Women and Industry Award from the Bergen County, N.J., YWCA in the spring. She lives in Upper Saddle River with her husband and three children.

Joseph Glantz, C’74, e-mails that he has set up Law3000, a self-run, computer-consulting business for the legal industry, giving lawyers and the legal community advice on navigating the Internet, choosing and designing legal-related software and hardware, and giving advice on courtroom presentations. Two articles were published on this business this fall in the Pennsylvania Lawyer. Joe has a law degree from George Washington University and a master’s in computer science from Drexel University; he practiced law for 14 years and worked in software development with AT&T for more than five years. Ronald H. Levine, W’74, Swarthmore, Pa., was appointed chief of the criminal division of the Office of the U.S. Attorney in Philadelphia. He had previously headed the public-corruption and healthcare-fraud sections in that division.

Ron Blasdell, C’75, has been promoted to senior vice president of operations and project management for the Golden American Life Insurance Company of Wilmington, Del., a subsidiary of the ING Group.

Dr. Edward C. Halperin, W’75, Chapel Hill, N.C., has been named the L. R. Prosnitz Professor of Radiation Oncology, chair of radiation oncology, and professor of pediatrics at Duke University Medical Center. The third edition of Pediatric Radiation Oncology, which he co-wrote with three colleagues, will be published this year; the first Russian edition is scheduled for publication next year.

Stephen Hochheiser, C’76, is the director of campus marketing for International Thomson Publishing, one of the nation’s largest publishers of higher-education course materials. He was recently appointed to the board of the National Association of College Stores, representing the college-publishing industry. He is also a former member of the boards of both the California Association of College Stores and the Southwest College Bookstore Association.

Roxanne Parker, WG’77, has been named vice president in charge of treasury and investor relations for Dun & Bradstreet Corp. She had been assistant treasurer for AT&T Corp. She and her husband live in Mountain Lakes, N.J.

Virginia Jarvis Whelan, C’78, received her M.S. in art conservation in September 1997 from the Winterthur/University of Delaware, specializing in textile conservation. She is currently working part-time at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and has started a private textile-conservation business in Philadelphia.

Richard Q. Whelan, C’78, in June completed his third marathon in San Diego. Gina and Rick recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary; they live in the Philadelphia area with their three sons (ages 16, 14, and 8).

Mark D. Seltzer, C’79, mseltzer@goulstorrs.com recently joined the Boston law firm of Goulston & Storrs as counsel in its litigation department, and as a member of the regulatory-compliance and white-collar criminal-defense practice group. He joined the firm after 13 years as a federal prosecutor both in Miami, as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida, and in Boston as the director of the New England bank-fraud task force of the U.S. Department of Justice.

1980s

Bill Westfield, EE’81, and his wife, Mary Ann, are proud to announce the birth of their third child, Gabrielle Arthada, as well as Bill’s promotion to Distinguished Engineer in the IOS group of Cisco Systems, Inc.

Dr. David L. Boose, C’83, e-mails that after receiving his Ph.D. in ecology from the University of California at Davis in 1995, he taught ecology, evolution, conservation biology, and introductory biology at Pomona College in Claremont, and was a research associate at the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, also in Claremont. John Terwilliger, C/W’83, writes that he has opened Art of Coffee, an American-style, specialty-coffee retail store in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, with plans to open further stores throughout that country.

Dr. William Zachs, C’83, Edinburgh, e-mails that his new book, The First John Murray and the Late Eighteenth-Century London Book Trade, was published in October by Oxford University Press for the British Academy. The book was launched in London in October, with “a small exhibition of items from the Murrays (who are still very much a going concern, indeed the oldest family-run publishing house in the world), and books published by Murray which I’ve been collecting for a while. The project grew out of my first book: Without Regard to Good Manners: A Biography of Gilbert Stuart, 1743-1786, which came out in 1992. I’ve been in Edinburgh for over 15 years now, having come for a year to do a master’s in 1983. I liked Scotland, Edinburgh in particular, and never left. Ironically, I had applied as a junior to the Penn-Edinburgh exchange program; I wasn’t accepted and ended up for a year �abroad’ at Berkeley. There I got into Scottish literature and history — and I suppose the rest is history.”

Sharon Glassman, C’84, debuted her fifth, full-length monologue, Brenda Builds a Pool: a guided tour into the heart of Brooklyn Heights, in October at the Solo Arts Group in Manhattan. Glassman, a writer-performer who tours nationally, will follow Brenda with an encore of her holiday monologue, Undercover Mother, to benefit the U.S. Post Office’s Operation Santa Claus charity, in December. She lives in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Steven Phillips, EE’84, a patent lawyer, has joined Northern Telecom in Research Triangle Park, N.C., in the position of senior patent attorney.

Hon. Mark S. Vavala, C’84, has been sworn in as a master on the Superior Court of Delaware. After leaving Penn, he taught high school for three years, then began his career with the Delaware court system, holding several positions, including statewide jury manager and chief deputy prothonotary. He returned to school after 11 years, “obtaining a juris-doctor degree while working full-time and raising three terrific children with his supportive and wonderful wife, Vanessa.”

Lisa Block Cohen, C’85, and Jeffrey H. Cohen, W’85, are delighted to announce the birth of their second child, Cameron Chase, on March 12. Jeff is a corporate partner in the Los Angeles office of Shadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.

Lal Heneghan, C’85, and Dr. Amy Mikuta Heneghan, C’84, M’88, happily announce the birth of their daughter, Lucy Margaret, on March 20; she joins her brother, Jack Francis (two). Lal is director of labor relations for the National Football League, and Amy is an assistant professor of pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center. They live in Old Greenwich, Conn.

Sarah Peachey Keating, C’85, and her husband, Daniel Keating, are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Hannah Leigh, on April 8. She joins her sister, Caroline, and her four brothers, Danny, Michael, Patrick, and Connor. Sarah continues to practice law as a senior assistant regional counsel for the Environmental Protection Agency in Philadelphia, where she has worked since 1989. Dan is the president and CEO of Keating Building Corporation.

He had returned to Philadelphia from Palm Beach, Fla., where he also practiced law. Immediately prior to joining White and Williams, he worked as public-policy analyst on the governmental-affairs team at The Tierney Group, Pennsylvania’s largest public-relations agency. He and his wife, Mandy Kelsey Marion, C’90, GEd’91, live in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia with their two-year-old son, Daniel. They were “expecting a daughter in late September.”

Susan Ayanian Pereles, Nu’86, and her husband, Dr. Dan Pereles, C’83, M’87, welcomed their second child, Grace Armineh, on May 23 last year; she joins her brother, Luke (four). They live in Potomac, Md., where Dan practices as an orthopedic surgeon.

Deborah Proner Brand, C’87, and her husband, David, are proud to announce the birth of their son, Stephen, on December 2. They live in Manhattan, where Debbie is a real estate lawyer with Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, and David is a managing director in the mergers and acquisitions department of Lehman Brothers.

Shari Elbert, C’88, Evan Steele, WG’92, and their daughter, Madison (four), very proudly announce the birth of Parker Steele on December 2, 1997. Shari continues to work part-time as a consultant at the Hay Group, where she has been employed for the past 10 years. Evan manages a large pediatric-ophthalmology practice in New York City.

Howard Mark Goodman, W’88, was recently promoted to CAO for Salomon Smith Barney’s telecom/media franchises, returning to New York City after spending almost three years in Tampa, Fla., and 15 months in Buenos Aires. He is engaged to Dr. Anat Ajzyk, a veterinarian from Buenos Aires.

Karen Post, C/W’88, and her husband, Jonathon Nevett, are pleased to announce the birth of their beautiful daughter, Rachel Amy Nevett, on May 20. Due to the timing of Rachel’s birth, Karen was, of course, unable to attend the 10th Reunion, but was there in spirit. She is an associate with the Washington, D.C., law firm of Dow, Lohnes & Albertson, specializing in intellectual-property, media, and new-media law.

Robyn A. Voshardt, C’88, lives in St. Petersburg, Fla., and is president of Voshardt/ Humphrey Artworks, inc., a fine-art and design studio and gallery. She does collaborative photographic projects with her husband, and they currently have five pieces on exhibit in Featuring Florida 1998 at the Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, and work in Undercurrent/ Overview II at the Tampa Museum of Art. In addition to corporate-identity projects, she is also designing the event graphics for the First Night New Year’s Eve celebration in St. Petersburg.

Richard Harrison White, W’88, and his wife, Dr. Rachel Kramer, C’89, moved back to Philadelphia in the summer with their new baby, Elliot. Rachel just completed her residency at Yale, and Richard is controller for the Sega Channel.

Lara Strauch Batten, C’89, moved to Hilton Head Island, S.C., with her soulmate and husband, Daniel Batten, in October last year. She has written “five books, numerous short stories, and zillions of poems.” She also mixes media and paints her poetry onto objects; an exhibit of this mixed media form, with demonstrations of the art form, book reading, and a writing workshop, was held in July at the Healing Rays/New Life Gallery, in Charleston.

Cheryl Monturo, G’89, just had a baby, Isabella, on January 9, joining brother Nicholas (three).

Deborah Zinn Shiffman, C’89, and David A. Shiffman, C’89, are happy to announce the birth of their twin daughters, Sara Alix and Sydney Elise, on January 17. David’s twin brother, Marc R. Shiffman, W’89, is proud to announce his new status as Uncle Marc. Deborah completed her LLM at New York University Law School and is working as a tax attorney at New York Life Insurance Company. David recently left Salomon Smith Barney’s consumer group to join Goldman Sachs in corporate finance.

1990s

Kathleen Hyson Accurso, C’90, writes that she and her husband, a cost engineer at Witco Corp., are pleased to announce the birth of their second daughter, Caroline Marie, on December 8, 1997. Their first daughter, Mary Teresa, is two. “I am at home with the girls full-time” in Greenwich, Conn.

Susan McMerty Campisciano, Nu’90, GNu’96, and Vincent F. Campisciano, EAS/W’92, Havertown, Pa., are pleased to announce the birth of their son, Gregory Vincent, on May 12. Susan is on maternity leave from her job as a pediatric nurse practitioner at Children’s Seashore House in Philadelphia, Vincent is a management consultant with Arthur Andersen in Philadelphia, and “Gregory is currently unemployed, with no immediate job prospects.”

Christian F. Mahr, C’90, married Miyoko Sumiya in September 1996. They now live in Warsaw, where Christian is a legal officer for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Jay Seliber, W’90, along with celebrating the first birthday of his son, Jared, recently started a two-year tour in the Stamford, Conn., national office of the newly merged PriceWaterhouse-Coopers. As a senior manager, Jay works in the accounting-services group, providing assistance to PWC offices around the country on complicated accounting matters.

Justine A. Fitzgerald, C/W’91, and her husband, Adam Scheinman, are the proud parents of Nathaniel Fitzgerald Scheinman, who was born on April 7, weighing 8 lbs. 5 oz. Justine graduated from Georgetown University Law Center in May, magna cum laude, and was elected to the Order of the Coif. She began working at Arnold & Porter in Washington, D.C. in September, “after some time to vacation and hang out with Nathaniel and recover from the bar exam.”

Grace H. Shippens Scott, C’91, lives in Boston with her husband, Allan, (who was a Penn-Edinburgh Exchange, 1990-91), and their son, Gavin, who was born October 13, 1996. Grace is a market analyst at CareMatrix Corporation and Allan is a senior programmer at Gensym Corporation. Grace is also working on a part-time Masters in Education and “will leave the business world sometime in the next century to teach.”

Jodi Golant Solovy, C’91, and her husband, Rick Solovy, proudly announce the birth of their first son, Jacob Allen, on September 6, 1997. Jodi is an attorney, clerking for Justice Buckley of the Illinois Appellate Court in Chicago.

Capt. George K. Allen Jr., C’92, GKAllenJr @AOL.com, e-mails that after “completing a six-year sentence in the garden spots of the South (Leesville, La., and Columbus, Ga.) and bumming around the U.S. for the last two months,” he has finally settled into an “admittedly immature lifestyle” in the greater DC area. He will be attending the Joint Military Intelligence College at the Defense Intelligence Agency for the next year to gain an MS in strategic intelligence. “Drop a line to me if you are one of the former ROTC Nazis I berated, or if you are in the D.C. area and want to grab a beer.”

The couple met at Boston College Law School and graduated in 1995.

Nychelle Nguyen, EAS’92, Harrisburg, Pa., is a supply-base manager with AMP Inc., where she has been working since graduation. She received a master’s degree in information systems from Shippensburg University in 1996. She is engaged to David Hallock, and will be married on November 7; the wedding is in Harrisburg and among the guests will be a dozen or so Penn grads.

Linda Stolte, Nu’92, GNu’97, and P. J. Steinkrauss, W’93, were married in Bridgewater, N.J., on July 25. They were surrounded by many Penn friends as they took their vows. The couple will settle outside of Philadelphia as Linda continues to work as a nurse practitioner at CHOP and P. J. is employed in the banking business in Delaware.

Heidi Howard Tandy, C’92, and her husband, Aaron Tandy, have moved from New York to Miami, where Heidi is an intellectual-property associate at Ruden, McClosky, Smith, Schuster & Russell, continuing her concentration on trademarks, copyrights, and Internet issues. Dr. Pete Weimann, EAS/W’92, pweimann@bellsouth.net, completed his Ph.D. in materials science and engineering at the University of Minnesota in May. He relocated to Atlanta in June, where he is working for Lucent Technologies’ Network Systems division as a member of the technical staff in the fiber-optic materials-technology group.

Dr. Morris Davis, C’93, G’95, Gr’98, received a Ph.D. in economics from the University in August. He is currently working as an economist at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Beth Kissileff-Perlman, G’93, Gr’98, received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in comparative literature from the University in May.

Lisa Nass, C’93, L’96, and Dean Grabelle, L’95, are engaged to be married in Philadelphia in July 1999. Lisa is an associate in the labor and employment-relations department of the Philadelphia law firm of Wolf, Block, Schorr and Solis-Cohen, LLP. Dean is an associate in the business and finance department of the Princeton office of the Philadelphia law firm of Drinker, Biddle & Reath, LLP.

Dr. David Yi, C’93, married Sharlene Chang on June 13. They have settled in Dallas, where David started his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. His best friend, Joseph Yuhan, C’94, was best man, and will himself be getting married in May to HaYoung Lee.

Rebecca Coleman W’94, rebecca.coleman.wh94@wharton.upenn.edu, received the Dean’s Scholarship from Brigham Young University and began an MBA there this fall, after having spent the past four years as a market-research analyst in the Los Angeles area. “I’m enjoying Utah right now, but I won’t know how much I miss California until it starts to snow.”

Dana N. Lynch, C’94, GEd’95, married Princetonian Kate Strauss on June 20, in Fullerton, Calif. “We bought a house only four blocks away from her parents so that their future grandchildren could walk and visit. The real challenge comes later when those grandchildren will decide between Penn and Princeton. I know that they will proudly chose the red and blue over the ugly orange and black.” He began teaching social sciences at Rowland High School in Rowland Heights this September; the school was recently designated a National Blue Ribbon High School by the U.S. Department of Education. “I look forward to creating a championship model United Nations program as I did while teaching in Westfield, N.J.”

Drew Pearson, C/W’94, G’94, and Shiva Sarram, C’94, were married on July 4 at the Merion Tribute House in Merion, Pa. Among the guests were Penn graduates Patricia D’Alonzo, C’94, Brian Spenner, W’94, Sara Braun, C’94, Rachel Cytron, C’94, Tara Vandegrift, C’94, Greg Porges, C’89, and Diana Porges, C’90, Brent Buckley, W’94, G’94, Karen Lee, C/W’94, Omid Alavi, C’97, and Reza Alavi, C’98. Drew is currently an associate at General Atlantic Partners and Shiva is an analyst at Tiger Management; they live in Manhattan.

Sue Smith, CGS’94, suesmith@pobox.upenn.edu, in July was named associate director for communications in the Office of College Houses and Academic Services at the University. She is also pursuing a Master’s of Landscape Architecture degree at Penn.

Stacia Troester, C’94, and Rob Gillam, W’94, moved to Anchorage two years ago. Since then, Stacia has been working as an account supervisor at The Nerland Agency, an advertising and PR agency. A recent graduate of �Hamburger University,’ she spends most of her time managing the Alaska McDonald’s account. Rob is the head of global and international equities for McKinley Capital Management. His international portfolio was named No. 1 in the world by Nelson’s “World’s Best Money Managers” for 1997.

Melissa C. Barkan, C’95, is engaged to Shawn J. Wallach. Melissa is entering her fourth year of medical school and Shawn is an attorney at a law firm in Manhattan. The wedding is set to take place on March 28, 1999, at Temple Israel in Lawrence, N.Y.

Eric Barker, C’95, Hollywood, Calif., ebarker@idlemind.com, is a screenwriter in Los Angeles, represented at the Writers and Artists Agency. His first movie, “Hitman’s Run,” is currently shooting and a summer 1999 release is expected. “I started a production company, idlemind, and the Web site (www.idlemind.com) should be up [by fall].” In September he began an MFA in the producer’s program of UCLA School of Film and Television (www.filmtv.ucla.edu/producers.html).

Ruth Humber Brittain, C’95, teaches at the Spruce Hill Christian School, located near Penn’s campus. Her twin brother, Paul D. Humber, C’95, is with Wycliffe Bible Translators and currently is studying linguistics in Dallas; he had earlier served in missionary work in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Carl Forsling, W’95, cforsling@gibralter.net, is currently flying CH-46E “phrogs” for Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 365 (HMM-365) at Marine Corps Air Station New River, in Jacksonville, N.C. “We’re getting ready to deploy in April 1999 to the Persian Gulf, Mediterranean Sea, and West Africa. I’m enjoying flying combat aircraft for America’s finest, the U.S. Marines. Hope to hear from any Penn alumni in the North Carolina area.”

Adam Green, C/W’95, e-mails that he was the first financial analyst to successfully complete all three years in the M&A group at Salomon Brothers in New York, and has been promoted to associate at Salomon Smith Barney. In those three years he worked in a wide range of industries for some of the firm’s largest corporate clients as well as financial buyers and investor groups. To celebrate the successes of the past three years, he recently traveled throughout Asia.

Christopher Hartwell, C’95, chrish@reason.org, Santa Monica, Calif., e-mails that he has moved again. “After spending three years in hell, er, Boston, attending that grad school that begins with an H and then working, I’ve secured a job in Los Angeles with the Reason Foundation, a conservative think tank. I would love to get in touch with some old teammates from the volleyball team.”

Thomas A. Modic, Nu’95, Deltona, Fla., passed Columbia HCA critical-care coursework, and is currently a critical-care nurse in ICU/CCU at Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford. He married Leigh Ann Burrell in Copley, Ohio on November 10, 1997.

Isabel C. Ramos-Toral, C’95, icramos@prtc.net, has completed her law degree at the University of Puerto Rico. She is engaged to Luis M. Bernal; her friends Vanessa Saunders, C’95, GEd’96, Margie Ejercito, C’96, and Nneka Freeman, C’95, will be at the wedding in December.

Mahealani Richardson, C’95, mahea@compuserve.com, Honolulu, has been working as a news reporter at KGMB-9, the local CBS-affiliate television station. “Honolulu is a medium-sized market with a small-town feel. I’ve been tackling the hard-news stuff like government affairs, and I’ve been trying to perfect my liveshots. Also looks like anchoring may be in my future sometime. I started at KGMB as an assistant producer making only $6 an hour and eventually made my way up to full-time reporter about a year ago. I’ve come a long way, baby. Please feel free to contact me.”

Jason Straus, C’95, a salesperson for Bloomberg in New York City, married Amy Leitner on June 7. Among those attending the wedding were Steve Pestka, C’95, Jeremy Morrison, EAS/W’96, Andrew Kluter, EAS’95, Stacey Aronow, C’94, GEd’95, Stephanie Feingold, C’95, L’97, Ken Markus, EAS/W’96, Sherry Straus Greenberg, Nu’90, GNu’92, and Brian Greenberg, W’91.

Chi-May Wu, C’95, is happily engaged to Christopher B. Brewer; they plan to wed in August next year. After working for Deloitte & Touche in Washington, D.C., for the past three years, she is attending the Georgetown University MBA program this fall.

Leora Aster, C’96, G’96, aster_l@lsa.lan.mcgill.ca, is studying law at McGill University in Montreal; she spent the summer clerking in the Supreme Court of Israel. Lt. John P. Mueller, C’96 , Twentynine Palms, Calif., is a platoon commander with the Third Light Armored Reconnaisance Battalion. He was deployed to South Korea and Japan this fall.

Michelle Nadler, C’96, and Matthew Ingber, C’95, are engaged. Matthew graduated from George Washington Law School in May and has begun his career at the New York City office of Mayer, Brown & Platt. Michelle will graduate Georgetown Law School in 1999, and return to New York where they will be married and will live. “We look forward to sharing our wedding and our lives with lots of friends from Penn.”

Janice Deyoung Breen, GNu’98, has taken a position as vice president of business development at Senior Care Centers of America, and in that role, she has just started a new corporation, Senior CareNet, which offers a network of health services for the elderly. Currently, she is a doctoral student at Rutgers University. Her son, Greg, graduated last year with a BFA from the Tyler School of Art, Temple University. Her daughter, Karen, is a senior at Parsons School of Design, N.Y.
