Bentley Kassal C’37 was awarded the Légion d’honneur in June last year; the ceremony, in Normandy, honored 35 Americans for their service in the Second World War and was attended by President Obama. At 93, Bentley still serves as legal counsel for the firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in New York.

His daughter, Martha Johnson, on confirmation by the US Senate, became the first woman administrator of the General Services Administration, the acquisition and property management arm of the federal government, with 12,000 employees, a multi-billion dollar budget, and a presidential mandate to go 100% green. His son wrote a new book, Climate Hope: On the Front Lines of the Fight against Coal.
47 Dr. Slater Newman W’47, Raleigh, N.C., emeritus professor of psychology at North Carolina State University, in May received a 2010 Peacemaker Award from the North Carolina Peace Action group.

50 Frederick Selby W’50 published a book, Postcards From Kathmandu, which describes his many journeys to Nepal including his three years as adviser to that country’s finance ministry; it includes 35 pages of photos, taken on climbs and treks in the Himalayas. After a lifetime as an investment banker, he also has traveled into the mountains of Bhutan, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, Africa, the Alps, as well as the US and Canadian Rocky Mountains. He lives in New York and is the father of two daughters and a son (who is in charge of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management in Australia); there are four grandchildren. He is currently working on a book in which he writes “about the highs and lows of life.”

76 Barry Hartman C’76 is a partner at the law firm of K&L Gates LLP in Washington, who specializes in environmental litigation and counseling. Recently he provided testimony to the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on proposed changes to the Oil Pollution Act in light of the BP Gulf oil spill. He led the prosecution for the Justice Department in the Exxon Valdez oil spill, and represented the lobster industry in the 1996 North Cape spill off of Rhode Island and the pilot in the Cosco Busan oil spill in San Francisco Bay in 2008.
Rabbi Goldie Milgram CW’76 writes, “A few hours after adding a condo in beautiful Sarasota, Fla., to our lives, the local Reconstructionist synagogue inquired about rabbinic services, so I will be rabbi-in-residence for Kol HaNeshama, from mid-December to mid-April. [I am] serving as September rabbi-in-residence for the Jewish renewal community in Portland, Ore., then heading to Wisconsin to offer a few retreats, after [teaching] public speaking for the Won Korean Reform Buddhist Seminary, to be followed by two webcam semesters teaching pastoral counseling for the Aleph ordination programs.
